Computer Specs removed from site profiles

As promised here the computer specs section of registered members profiles have been deleted. We did give clan members ample time to move their specs over to their player profile. Currently computer specs are for team members only. Not to worry. So everyone doesn't feel like they are losing out on customized profile information something is in the works to give you the capability back (GamerSpace) though it is going to take a while.

XFire Signatures deleted for the sake of progress

All XFire Signatures have been deleted. You'll need to go in and recreate your signature again. There was no way around deleting them and I'll tell you why doing so is such a good thing for the sake of the website.

I spent the last 6 hours completely recoding the custom XFire Signature editor. You won't notice any changes hopefully. It took me 1 hour to move the code and the next 5 hours recreating it exactly how it was so that no one feels like they lost any capability.

Here's how the signatures used to work up till 6 hours ago. All information for the signatures was tied directly to your user profile. That means whenever any information is pulled anywhere on the site all of those useless queries are being called too...and there were over 100 fields associated with the signatures. That was a shit ton of unnecessary overhead on the server cpu. I've moved them out of the profile so that they are only called when you edit your signature. That's 100 less database queries per page.

blah blah blah ok so what does all this mean for you? A lot of sections on the website should be much faster including the index (News) and the Forums. The downside is for those that use our custom XFire signatures you'll have to redo them. Small price to pay for optimized queries and a faster site.

Microsoft's new HD Audio policy. No Stereo Mix.

There has been a flury of news around the net about Dell's recent decision to collude with the RIAA and Microsoft to completely disable your stereo mix. You will no longer be able to record what you hear coming out of your speakers. New Dell owners were completely perplexed to learn they were missing the option to do so in their new computers. It's obvious that things have been ramping up towards this in tiny increments very discreetly and with no publicity from online computer news aggregates.

I've recently learned that even my own computer has a diminished capacity to control recording levels per input device. After a lengthy discussion on abit's forums and from doing research online it's obvious who the real culprit is. It all comes down to Microsoft's new WHQL/WDM policy. Realtek was forced to program their drivers without certain basic abilities in order to have their drivers Microsoft Certified for the new universal HD Audio architecture. This new architecture is touted as universal because it will force all audio driver manufacturers to have the same capability... or in the case of this issue of no stereo mix... the purposeful lack of the abilty.

This affects most of the newer motherboards since they are all shipping with the HD Audio drivers by default. It definitely affects OEM computers that ship with Vista but there is a work around by "showing hidden devices". That only works for some retail versions of Vista. Definitely not Vista shipping with the new Dell's.

You can't use old drivers from the regular AC97 in XP and to make matters worse the new Windows Update to Service Pack 3 (SP3) will install the HD audio bus and will potentially kill off your ability to set individual recording levels for all of your devices. With XP you will still have the ability to use stereo mix but it will be somewhat crippled in the ability to adjust the volume on the fly making it very inconvenient to use. This could be considered Microsoft's slow phasing out of stereo mix. Chances are extremely good if you've purchased a motherboard within the last year you will be affected by the new policy.

This is literally RIAA doing some magical work in order to prevent you from ripping music. At the same time it will making live gamecasting completely pointless (you won't be able to hear in game sounds only commentary).

At this time there is no registry fix or hack you can do. The motherboard manufacturers are content with shipping their motherboards with Realtek drivers and the abusive policy of Microsoft to stem music piracy. As long as no one knows about it and public outcry is loud as a mouse fart they'll just continue to surprise consumers when they get their new computers home with the removed capability. Literally no one is covering this news. Maybe they don't know? Maybe they don't think it's a big deal? Who knows. It is a big deal when a computer manufacturer can take away such a basic property of computing without so much as a peep from sources such as /. or INQ. Those sources are covering the whole Dell and RIAA thing but what they fail to mention is the drivers for your old motherboard are being targeted too.

If you have the ability to record in stereo mix save those drivers and never lose them because the next update for your sound drivers might just make your stereo mix magically disappear!

If you want to see if you are affected by this then open up your volume control panel and see if your recording sliders are greyed out except for the master recording volume control.

LG now offers team autonomy

All team captains now have full autonomy to administrate their team rosters, create and report matches, edit their rosters, and give forum access to their team members. Teams are now fully automated!

Our site admins can always step in to help captains with autonomy issues but for the most part they are expected to run their teams and keep their own events updated.

This will give me extra time to devote to other areas such as broadcasting or coding new features for the site. The less maintenance work I have to do the more time I can dedicate to coding new features.

If you have a server and are looking for a dedicated clan consider opening up a new team and expanding LG into new games! We now offer full team autonomy, match tracking, and a large variety of community based features to make you and your team feel right at home. We are not a team sponsor but we do allow new team creation and integration of other clans as long as:
1. You can provide your own server.
2. You can field a competitive or public team.
3. Your attitude and personality are friendly enough to represent us.

If you have what it takes to start a new team and expand our organization into new games we would love to hear from you.

CAL DoD:S S9 W1 - LG vs LG Review

I'm glad to say the S9 opener which pitted LG vs LG for the first time in a regular season match ever went off without a hitch. Both teams showed up and were ready come game. No last minute CALACS or screenshot bs to deal with thanks mostly in part of CAL because they've streamlined the pre-game process this season to be so easy.

The game was a rude awakening for Team 2 as the final score was 793:23 in favor of Team Pure. Team 2 didn't play bad at all but Team Pure's experience certainly played a major part in the trouncing as map locations, strategy, and communication have become 2nd nature for them on Harrington from 2 full seasons of play. Team 2 put out a good effort and did manage to cap out on Team Pure once mid-way through the 2nd half. Genka deserves a lot of credit for his individual effort in securing that flag for Team 2.

This match was the first ever live streaming broadcast (with commentator) of an LG match. The video quality even at 320x240 is absolute shit and the audio is even worse but there it is archived for posterity. Anyone brave enough to strain their eyes and ears watching it is welcome to do so.

Watch live video from Legendary Gamers TV on Justin.tv

Though Team 2 lost by an abysmal amount they have a roster of talented players. Everyone on the team had never even played in a competitive league match so they didn't do too bad against an obviously more experienced Team Pure. It could have been a lot worse. Team 2 wasn't getting consistently rolled over they did put up a valiant fight to the end. We'll all try to get them prepared for their next match in terms of communication and strategy.

To Team Pure's credit they played a great game. Ox and Koopa did a great job going down long and Thor and Quinton rocked the Mountain House. Picklez and Dustin were effective in making everyone on Team 2 think twice before venturing out into the middle.

It was a good match. Far from excellent. As everyone has been saying for the few days after the schedules came out, "either way LG wins". Everyone that showed moral support by joining our spectator channel in vent, watching SourceTV, and/or the live streaming broadcast was very much appreciated.

CAL Season 9 Week 1 LG vs LG!

CAL's Season 9 Week 1 opens with LG Team Pure vs LG Team 2. This is actually a normal thing that CAL does in order to gauge where a clan's team's stack up to each other in order to schedule them against other teams. Usually this is done in 1 of the 3 Pre-Season games. Unfortunately for LG both teams missed Pre-S9 W1. Pre-S9 W2 was given the porn star double-fisting treatment by the epic DoD:S Beta Steam Update. To make matters worse Team 2 got a forfeit win in Pre-S9 W3 so the greenies haven't actually played a single match to date while Team Pure has 2 seasons under their belt.

This Wednesday will be some super sexy LG on LG action. Expect to see lots of love spraying everywhere.

=LG= Dustin in DeathMatch Radio NA Cup

Death Match Radio North American Cup

Dustin entered a Quake 3 CPMA tournament hosted by Death Match Radio this Saturday. Many of us had the opportunity to watch him live through a uStream.tv player complete with 2 funny commentators.

Dustin's first match was against Senali. Senali chose his first map cpm3a and Dustin chose 2nd map of cpm22. The first couple of minutes Dustin and Senali were probing each other like 2 porn stars in a whore house. Each took turns trying to fist the other in a cat and mouse game. Senali jumped out to an early lead with a couple of frags and Dustin wasn't looking quite like the Dustin we knew. It took a couple minutes for Dustin to find his rhythm and once he did Senali was running for his life as if he'd poked a tiger with a stick one too many times. First half ended 15-9.

The 2nd map was Dustins first choice. The gibblet feast Dustin laid down was furious and awe inspiring. He had so many amazing rail shots, air rockets, and skilled defrag style trick jumps that the commentators were giving Dustin his due complimentary aural blowjob. Here's how the 2nd map ended.

Watch Dustin vs. Senali here!

OR watch it from the below embedded flash player:

The recorded stream is capped at 320x240 resolution but DeathMatchRadio says they will be working to improve the resolution in the future.

Dustin ended up losing to his 2nd opponent named Cosmo in the single elimination tournament. That match was not broadcast but I was able to join the actual server to watch the game. He gave it all he had and kept it close enough to be respectable. Though Dustin was faster than Cosmo he couldn't close the distance to get around Cosmo's skillful accuracy.
You can watch all of the tournaments broadcasted matches here.

Dustin competed against some of the best Quake 3 players in North America. I'm not going to say these guys are the definitive best as there were obviously many of the top players missing in the tournament according to the commentators. Dustin's sportsmanship was impeccable and he fully represented the LG tag the whole tourney even though we've long since lost our Quake 3 team. He deserves a lot of credit for even attempting to compete in the tournament. He's performed amazingly well and has shown he deserves to swim with the adults in the deep end of the Quake 3 pool.

As a side note... Dustin has played a total of 4,783 hours in a variety of games... since September of 2007. That equals 84 straight days of gaming in less than a year. Put a couple quarters in the guy because he's basically a gaming machine.

New LG Public Steam Group

We have opened up a public steam group alongside of our private group. This is so you can help expand our social network within steam. All members in the public group are allowed to send group join invitations. All members can join or leave the group at will including clan members if the network ever becomes so large that it eclipses the parallels within our own real community.

All clan members should inversely stay within the private group to remain in the best contact through steam games. Steam has usurped X-Fire for the normal mode of instant messages since most of us are playing steam based games. That might change in the future if we move to non-steam based games such as Call of Duty 4, Quake 5, WoW, etc...

You'll notice the new external home banner on the right side of the site.

The public steam group will be notified/scheduled of upcoming matches so they will have the opportunity to watch to those competing through SourceTV. The group will also be notified of other events such as map testing (we do have a few map designers), small tourneys, etc.. This will be a good way to notify them as most in the public group will likely not visit our site vs. use it as a social base to find games with friends and friends of friends.
